Smoking rates down among U.S. adults

Posted at 7:38 AM, Dec 07, 2016

According to Centers for Disease Control, only 36.5 million Americans smoke.

That doesn't sound like a low number, but it's the first time the number of smokers has dropped below 40 million since record keeping began 50 years ago.

The reason - young adults are less likely to smoke.

Education made a big difference too, only four-percent of graduate degree holders smoke, while 20-percent of high school grads and 24-percent of GED holders smoke cigarettes.
