That doesn't sound like a low number, but it's the first time the number of smokers has dropped below 40 million since record keeping began 50 years ago.
The reason - young adults are less likely to smoke.
Education made a big difference too, only four-percent of graduate degree holders smoke, while 20-percent of high school grads and 24-percent of GED holders smoke cigarettes.
