The on-court skills of high school basketball players from Carson City-Crystal and Fulton have helped Sparrow Carson Hospital buy two heated massage chairs for Patients of the hospital’s Infusion and Chemotherapy Center.

Girls and boys junior varsity and varsity players from the two schools teamed up last winter for the Battle on 57, a friendly competition-based fundraiser. Along with donations from the Carson Foundation and Sparrow Carson Hospital Auxiliary, the fundraiser allowed the hospital to purchase the chairs.

“We’re so impressed by the community’s willingness to do such a generous thing for our Patients, and our Patients really love the chairs. It’s such a nice way to help them relax and for a short time take their minds off of why they’re at the hospital,” said Nancy Seals, RN, Infusion and Chemotherapy Center Manager.

Battle on 57, named after highway M-57 that runs through Fulton Township and Carson City, is a day-long fundraising event. In past years, the teams raised money to buy a commercial-grade rocking chair for Sparrow Carson’s Obstetric Department and an AccuVein infrared vein finder for the Infusion and Chemotherapy Center and the Emergency Department.
