The number of teen moms who have a repeat birth has dropped over the past decade, but many are not doing enough to prevent another pregnancy.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 38,000 teens had a repeat birth in 2015. About a quarter of teen moms used effective forms of birth control, which is five times higher than in 2004.
Overall contraceptive use did not change. One-third of teen moms used methods with high failure rates or none at all. Repeat teen births are more likely to be preterm and low birth weight.
