New presidents named at Sparrow Carson, Clinton, and Ionia Hospitals

LANSING, Mich. — Two nursing leaders and a Chief Financial Officer have been named presidents of three Sparrow Community Hospitals, which provide quality, compassionate care throughout Mid-Michigan.

Effective today, May 1, Mark Brisboe, Beth Daugherty and Linda Reetz have been promoted to serve as Presidents of Sparrow Carson, Sparrow Clinton and Sparrow Ionia Hospitals, respectively. Each has been serving as acting hospital administrators for the past few months and bring decades of healthcare leadership experience to their new roles.

The community-based Boards of Directors of each hospital unanimously selected the trio.

“We are blessed to have such strong leaders who stepped into the void at each hospital and earned their new leadership roles during these unprecedented times,” said Kira Carter-Robertson, Senior Vice President, Affiliate Operations, for Sparrow Health System.

Brisboe has been with Sparrow since July 2009 and has served as the Acting Hospital Administrative Officer at Sparrow Carson and Chief Financial Officer for all Sparrow Community Hospitals, also including Sparrow Eaton Hospital. He has 30 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations and finance within small and rural hospitals.

Brisboe was involved in the operational turnaround at Sparrow Ionia Hospital which lead to the development and build of a new hospital in 2015. In addition, he has been involved in financial turnaround improvements at Sparrow Carson and served as a key executive leader at Sparrow Clinton.

Daugherty has been with Sparrow since January 2015 and most recently served as the Acting Hospital Administrative Officer and Chief Nursing Officer for Sparrow Clinton. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Mercy College of Detroit and a master’s in Public Health Administration from the University of Minnesota. Daugherty has over 30 years of healthcare experience in both direct patient care and executive-level roles within for-profit and non-profit rural community

hospitals. She is a leader in developing evidence-based patient safety and quality practices, including facilitating the American Nurses Credentialing Center Pathway to Excellence Program® at Sparrow Clinton Hospital. She is a 2019 Daisy Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient.

Reetz has been with Sparrow since May 2011 and has served as the Acting Hospital Administrative Officer and Chief Nursing Officer for Sparrow Ionia. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Eastern Michigan University and master’s degree in Business Administration from Regis University.

Reetz has over 30 years of healthcare experience in both direct patient care and progressive leadership responsibilities within large tertiary and rural hospitals. She is a leader in developing evidence-based patient safety and quality practices, including facilitating the American Nurses Credentialing Center Pathway to Excellence Program® at Sparrow Ionia Hospital.

The leaders succeed Bill Roeser (Sparrow Carson and Ionia) and Ed Bruun (Sparrow Clinton), both of whom retired last year.
