New HIV tests plug into laptop

Posted

British scientists have developed a new HIV test that plugs into your laptop.

The device detects the virus in a drop of blood and creates an electrical signal that can be read by a computer.

The test as able to produce results in under 30 minutes, with 95-percent accuracy.

Experts say this technology could eventually allow HIV patients to regularly check their virus levels in the same way diabetics monitor their blood sugar.

It could also be used in remote areas of Africa, where there are very few testing facilities.
