New gene therapy approved for rare form of blindness

Posted

Those suffering from a rare form of blindness may gain their eyesight thanks to a newly approved gene therapy.

Heath Officials approved Luxturna, a form of gene therapy for patients with a vision destroying mutation.

The injection has been successful thus far, with patients describing seeing things like snow and the moon, for the first time.

The vision mutation interferes with the production of an enzyme responsible for providing people with normal vision.
