Local clinics getting money to help poor & uninsured

Five local health clinics are getting a cut of more than $1 million in donations from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Each of the clinics works with people who are uninsured or have poor coverage. Blue Cross says the donations help keep them open and help reduce the demand on hospitals.

Huda Fadel, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan said, "We don't want to have people going into the emergency room for common problems because they have no other access and it's also not the best place to get that kind of care."

Three clinics in Lansing received grants -- Cristo Rey Community Center, Carefree Medical and Dental, His Healing Hands, Saint Luke's Clinic and the Center for Family Health in Jackson.
