Less patients are getting prostate surgery

Researchers say men are undergoing fewer prostate biopsies and surgeries to remove their prostate and it's largely because of a 2012 recommendation against using PSA blood tests to screen for prostate cancer.

That recommendation came from the US preventative services task force four years ago.

They say the blood test led to over-treatment of many slow-growing tumors that would likely never have harmed the patient.

There has been a 28-percent decrease in the rate of prostate biopsies since 2012.
