The numbers – and poundage – are in and employees of Ingham County government were the winners of Sparrow’s Maintain Don’t Gain holiday weight challenge.

The challenge involved nearly 1,000 employees from 12 local organizations, including Sparrow, who competed to maintain their starting weights between the food-rich period from Thanksgiving to New Year’s.

It was a tough task but Ingham County had the highest percentage of employees who achieved the goal.

The aim was to encourage healthy behaviors during the holiday season. Many organizations, including Sparrow, offered a variety of incentives and rewards to participants.

Participating organizations, besides Ingham County and Sparrow, were: Board of Water and Light; Dean Transportation; Eaton County Health and Rehabilitation Services; First National Bank of America; Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith; Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital; LOEYE; Michigan State University Federal Credit Union; Michigan Surgical Center; and Peckham Industries.

“Our Maintain Don’t Gain Corporate Challenge was a fun way to compete and do something healthy at the same time,” said Leslie Polack, Manager, Health & Wellness, for Sparrow. “Sparrow Health and Wellness lives Sparrow’s mission of improving the health of the people in our communities.”

The Corporate Challenge was part of Sparrow’s Be Well at Work program, which works to improve the overall health of Lansing-area employees, reduce unnecessary costs for employers and inspire productivity in today’s dynamic work environment.
