Fewer teens are using, abusing drugs

Posted

A new survey from the National Institute on drug abuse shows that fewer teenagers are using and abusing drugs.

The decline includes alcohol, cigarettes, and opioid painkillers. To illustrate just how far teens have come, in 1991, nearly 11-percent of high schoolers smoked half a pack of cigarettes a day or even more.

And today, just a little over one-percent report smoking that much. Marijuana use is down too, except among high school seniors where levels remained steady.
