5th grader Kanin Thelen singing for the kids and families at sparrow hospital, hoping to take their minds off the hospital for a while.
“I want people to feel that even if they are sick that I can still make them feel better," Kanin said.
Kanin's been singing since...
"Probably since before I could walk," Kanin said.
She sings for those in need now. It all started when she found out her vocal coach had cancer.
“We immediately wanted to help him but she wanted to do something on her own," Michelle Thelen, Kanin’s mom said.
She sang to raise money for him. She does the same for one of her classmates who has leukemia. She wants to make people happy.
"Every little bit helps and she's really hoping to continue to do this and help as many families as she can," Michelle said.
And up here on the pediatrics wing of Sparrow hospital you have a lot of sick kids and families going through rough times. And little events like this mean the world.
"I see usually that they start to smile, maybe sometimes they'll even eat when we couldn't get them to eat before,” Joan Jarosz, a pediatric nurse said. “Or they'll start to play."
"Just having some happiness come to my son is really important," Brenda Davis said.
Davis’ son Ben has a rare degenerative disease. He's been in hospitals since February.
"He's in the hospital bed most of the time, so seeing something different is really a nice thing for him,” Davis said. “A good break."
And peace of mind.
