The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is pledging more funding in the national fight against opioids.
The CDC is awarding more than $28.6 million in addition funding to 44 states, including Michigan, and the District of Columbia.
The funding will go toward three programs that equip states with resources needed to address the epidemic, Prescription Drug Overdose Prevention for States, the Data Driven Prevention Initiative and Enhanced State Opioid Overdose Surveillance.
This builds on the already dedicated $12 million in funds announced in July.
The expanded funding is part of the Department of Health and Human Services' five point strategy to fight the opioid epidemic.
