It's common knowledge that smoking is bad for you, but a new survey shows many American don't know why cigarettes are so harmful.
Nearly three-quarters of surveyed adults did not know the chemicals created by burning cigarettes are much more toxic than the manufacturer's additive.
And about one-third mistakenly believed cigarette filters trap the harmful chemicals in smoke.
The survey found that smokers were more likely than non-smokers to be misinformed.
