6,000 children in the U.S. suffer cardiac arrest in the hospital each year and what time of day it happens could affect their odds of survival.
Researchers studied 12,000 children who received CPR for at least two minutes while hospitalized and there was a 12-percent lower rate of survival when they went into cardiac arrest overnight, compared to the day or evening.
There was no difference between weekends and week days.
Experts say they are unsure why the time of day impacts survival, but say these findings suggest a need for better training for hospital staffing and training at night.
