University Lutheran Church to Host Multi-Congregational Food Packing Event

LANSING, Mich. — Volunteers from University Lutheran Church (ULC), the Islamic Center of East Lansing and University United Methodist Church will join together for a food packing event for Kids Coalition Against Hunger on Sunday September 22, 2019 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm.

Event: 2019 God’s Work, Our Hands Food Packing Event (Kids Coalition Against Hunger)

Participants: Volunteers from University Lutheran Church, the Islamic Center of East Lansing and University United Methodist Church.

Date: Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019 from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm

Location: ULC Fellowship Hall, 1020 South Harrison Road, East Lansing, MI 48823.

Coordinator: Vicki Anderson

Task: Volunteers will bag over 10,000 meals in 1½ hours. The meals consist of rice; vitamin fortified crushed soy; a dehydrated blend of six vegetables; and vitamin/mineral powder. Each bag of food contains six servings. The bags keep for long periods of time and require only boiling water for preparation. Suggested age is Kindergarten age and up.

One-third of the bags will go to the MSU Student Food Bank. Another third of the bags will go to a warehouse in Detroit for use in response to domestic emergencies such as floods and tornadoes. The remaining third of the bags are distributed internationally to feed starving children. This is the fifth year ULC has been working with the Islamic Center and the third year of donating to the MSU Student Food Bank.
