Sparrow Hospital awarded a former board chairman with it's highest honor.
James Butler received "The Founders Award" during a ceremony Tuesday. Butler spent more than 20 years on the Sparrow Board of Directors.
As a Vietnam veteran, he helped spearhead the Sparrow VOA practice, which serves the homeless community. It came out of a decision he made in Vietnam, that if he made it home alive, he would dedicate his life to giving back.
Butler said, "It's really a commitment that says 'Hey, I want to give back to my community and whatever I need to do I will do it.' And that's what I do."
Butler hopes this award will inspire others to give back to their communities.
