Fifty families with stories about life-saving treatment provided by Sparrow Hospital will be featured in Friday’s Sparrow Children’s Center Day of Miracles Telethon, which runs from 4:30 a.m. until 11 p.m.
Michigan State University Football Coach Mark Dantonio will once again be among the hosts of the 30th annual Telethon, which is generously presented by MSU Federal Credit Union. The telethon will raise money for the Sparrow Children’s Center, part of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since 1988. Money pledged will stay in mid-Michigan and help local Patients. Last year the telethon helped raise nearly $850,000 for the Sparrow Children’s Center.
“We’ve had 30 years of miracles and 30 years of community supports,” said Timur Raghib, M.D., Medical Director, Sparrow Medical Group Pediatric Practices. “Through we recognize a Miracle Child each year, the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals touches the lives of every pediatric Patient who comes to Sparrow, inpatient or outpatient.
“It is the graciousness and generosity of the community, our donors and our supporting businesses that has made our Children’s Miracle Network partnership a success for our hospital and community for decades. This year’s event is a celebration of all we’ve been able to accomplish in 30 years, as well as new goals for the future to ensure our children are receiving the best medical care possible.”
Parts of the event will be broadcast on WILX-TV10 and will also feature Miss Michigan, major corporate partners, and the world’s favorite college mascot, Sparty.
The telethon will also highlight our 2018 Miracle Child Luci Cichocki, the inspiration behind the “We Love Luci” campaign. Luci is a bright and infectious 3-year-old DeWitt girl who received extraordinary care at Sparrow after being diagnosed with cancer.
Another highlight will be the participation of local police and firefighters on the phone banks to receive calls from donors.
“The Lansing Police Department is honored to be part of the community engagement in supporting the Sparrow Children’s Miracle Network,” said Lansing Police Chief Mike Yankowski.
Firefighters from both Lansing and Delhi Township will generously devote their time.
“The Lansing and Delhi firefighters participate in the Day of Miracles to help support Sparrow Hospital in providing top-notch health services for the children of the Lansing area and beyond. Sparrow Hospital is our local hospital and our Lansing Firefighters Union is participating to give something back to our community,” said Dan Komm, Vice President of Lansing Firefighters, Local 421.
