OLIVET, Mich. — Registration is now open for the Olivet College ATHENA International High School and Middle School Girls’ Leadership Camps, designed to help inspire young women to realize their potential as responsible leaders. The first camp will be presented for high school students June 21-23, followed by a specialized middle school camp June 23-25.
“I am so excited to host the second ATHENA International Leadership Camps,” said Traci Corey, Olivet College Women’s Leadership Institute (OCWLI) director and presidential spouse. “For young leaders, it’s critical to be confident in your own voice and to lead as your authentic self. We know women can achieve anything, and the best way to do that is to help girls begin developing their leadership skills and realizing their potential at an early age. The knowledge and skills that this camp focuses on will allow girls to do that, resulting in leadership training that sticks with them.”
These transformative three-day camps will build girls’ unique attributes and traits by focusing on leadership skills, confidence, communication and relationship skills. Participants will learn how to advocate for themselves and others, as well as find their courage to lead, build self-confidence, learn how to express themselves to lead positive change, and stand in their own
voices by discovering their true authentic selves. Lessons will be paired with fun activities, games and indoor swimming.
These skills will be taught by strong female leaders and “Ment-Hers,” graduates of the Olivet College ATHENA International Women’s Leadership Program, under the direction of the Women’s Leadership Institute director and advisory council.
Engaging sessions will focus on the acclaimed ATHENA Leadership model, developed by ATHENA International and used around the world. ATHENA International is a well-recognized successful non-profit organization founded in Lansing, Michigan, that seeks to support, develop and honor women leaders through programs that are administered in partnership with host organizations.
In addition, the camps will also cover topics on life lessons in mental health, inclusion and diversity, networking and the college admissions process.
“The Olivet College ATHENA International High School and Middle School Girls’ Leadership Camps are unique opportunities for young women to connect with each other and practice critical principles of leadership,” said Jamilia Johnson, Women’s Leadership Institute coordinator. “Beyond becoming stronger leaders, camp participants will also learn more about Olivet College and opportunities within OC’s Women’s Leadership Institute. I am excited for campers to hear about the newest addition to the OCWLI, the Keyes-Barber-Benedict Scholars Program. This is a comprehensive leadership program with scholarship opportunities named in honor of our first three graduates, all of whom were women.”
Overnight camp accommodations, all meals, a camp T-shirt and age-appropriate leadership training are included in the $75 per participant cost. Scholarships are available to help make this opportunity attainable for all interested girls.
