OLIVET, Mich. — The Olivet College Jazz Band will perform Monday, April 8 at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Olivet Congregational Church, 125 College St., Olivet, Michigan. There is no cost to attend.

The Olivet College Jazz Band will be performing music incorporating jazz styles throughout the history of jazz, including big band, bebop, Latin, vocal and fusion jazz. The band will feature pieces composed by Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk and Oliver Nelson, including “God Bless the Child,” “Song for my Father” and “Stolen Moments.”

“I would encourage people to come to the concert to experience something new for an hour out of their busy schedules,” said Olivet College Jazz Band Director Jon Gewirtz. “We often become complacent in our lives and do not venture outside of our comfort zones. Going to see live music will stimulate the senses and make you think about things differently. We are also proud to present this concert for free.”

The arts play a vital role in fostering creativity and learning at Olivet College by promoting personal growth, self-expression, appreciation and individual and social responsibility. Annually, the College features artists, exhibitions and performances that reflect the diversity of the arts.
