What:
Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Senator Mike Shirkey are among the community leaders, Michigan Treatment Court judges and development partners coming together to take part in the groundbreaking ceremony for Andy’s Place, a new 50-unit residential facility developed as part of the Michigan Permanent Recovery Supportive Housing (PRSH) initiative to respond to Michigan’s opioid addiction crisis.

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Monday, April 29th at 2:00 p.m. at the development site - 2388 West Michigan Avenue in Jackson, Blackman Charter Township.

Andy’s Place is the first housing development in Michigan as a result of the PRSH initiative. The program is a collaboration between the Michigan Governor’s office, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, the Michigan Treatment Courts and Cinnaire. Andy’s Place will address the need for long term safe, affordable housing combined with onsite support services for individuals suffering from opioid addiction. Research has shown that long term safe affordable housing linked to support services has proven to be a successful approach to curb relapse and recidivism rates for opioid addicts.

Andy’s Place will provide onsite supportive services including case management and recovery programs funded and managed by the Drug Court and life skills programs – including financial health and employment training, sober and wellness activities, a greenhouse and recreational opportunities. The Community Action Agency of Jackson will provide job training and employment services through local business owners and manufacturers.
