LANSING, Mich. — The Great Lakes Cannabis Chamber of Commerce (GLCCOC) issued the following statement regarding the recent caregiver program extension proposed by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs:
Providing access to medicine is paramount to keeping people in Michigan safe and healthy. That open access should not override product safety. Recent recalls of caregiver produced medical marijuana products in Michigan underscore the dangers of allowing untested product to intermingle in the regulated market. While creating a market for safe and sustainable medical marijuana is difficult, consistently infusing the market with risky untested product can put public safety at risk. Therefore the GLCCOC urges LARA to proceed with extreme caution when allowing patients to purchase medicine that may potentially be hazardous to their health.
The Great Lakes Cannabis Chamber of Commerce is the first and largest trade organization dedicated to advocacy on behalf of Michigan’s licensed cannabis and hemp industries. The GLCCOC works to focus on the issues that impact the cultivation, processing and retail sale of cannabis and hemp.
