As there has been significant growth in robotics within Mason Public Schools, the district has announced the investment in a dedicated Robotics Center for student use.
The Robotics Center will be located at Mason High School and will be available for use by the high school robotics club, the Tractor Technicians, the middle school robotics club, the Tractor Technicians in Training as well as elementary clubs.
The district has worked with the architecture firm, GMB to design this new, dedicated robotics space which will allow the teams to continue to grow and remain competitive throughout the year as they prepare for the FIRST Robotics Competition in the spring.
The Robotics Center will occupy the space which was previously utilized by the gymnastic program.
The Robotics Center will allow students to put their academics to the test and utilize science, technology, engineering and math skills as well as apply creativity to their designs.
The space will feature new fabrication equipment and a full size FIRST Robotics field for practice.
Ben Shoemaker, Mason High School teacher and advisor to the Robotics Team said, “we are excited to utilize this robotics center to grow the current robotics classes and FIRST Robotics programs in Mason.
This new space will allow the FIRST Robotics teams to build their designs and practice as well as provide support to other mid-Michigan robotics teams to practice and collaborate with each other.”
Board of Education will review construction bids at the November Board of Education meeting and will award the construction contracts. Construction will begin in November and completion is expected in January 2019.
The improvements and renovations to the Robotics Center will be paid by general and sinking fund dollars.
