Mason Boy Scout Troop to honor two Eagles

Boy Scout Troop 141, Mason, MI, Chartered by St. James Catholic Church, Mason, MI is honored to announce that Shadd Richard Barnes and Robert James Crooks will receive their Eagle Award, during an Eagle Court of Honor on Sunday, February 19th at 2:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 1010 S Lansing, St, Mason, MI 48854. Shadd is the son of Craig and Sherry Barnes, Mason. Robert is the son of Michael and Lori Crooks, Leslie.

The highest award achievable in the Boy Scouts of America, Eagle is achieved by less than 5% of all boys who join Scouting. To achieve the Eagle Rank, a Scout must demonstrate leadership and citizenship, earn 21 Merit Badges and complete a service project benefiting the community before reaching the age of 18. Shadd completed a service project building a new percussion cabinet for the Mason High School Band. Robert completed a service project building new frame housings to house the photos of past Post Commanders and Auxiliary Presidents for VFW Post 7309 in Mason.

Shadd is currently taking classes incomputer science at Lansing Community College and employed by Dart Bank, Mason, MI in Document Imaging and Night Operations. Robert is enrolled in his 2nd term in the High Performance Automotive program at University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima, OH and employed by Sears Automotive in Lima.

Both Scouts graduated Mason High School in June of 2016. Shadd played Clarinet in the Concert band and Percussion in the Marching Band. Robert played trumpet in the Symphonic Band, Marching Band and Jazz Band. In their youth, both were active participants in community youth baseball, soccer and Upward basketball. Robert was also active in Upward football.

A reception for the Scouts will follow the ceremony in Cave Hall inside St. James Catholic Church. Boy Scout Troop 141 meets Tuesday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church.
