LANSING, Mich. — Alice Ehn, is the Association Executive for the Washtenaw Area Apartment Association (WAAA) who leads the Association ensuring success of the organization for the counties of Washtenaw, Lenawee, Livingston and Monroe.
Alice Ehn served as staff liaison to all committees at the national level, while working for the Board of Directors full-time, keeping the association moving forward at all levels, including advocacy.
Ehn worked with local municipalities to make significant changes to the inspection programs that affect members, including gaining an additional year on periodic inspections, moving from 2.5 years to 3.5 years and reducing the number of re-inspections by negotiating a standard checklist in The City of Ann Arbor. Ehn also recently increased the education program, finding creative ways to offer the National Apartment Association’s designation programs by partnering with another organization to make it happen.
Ehn, who was named NAA Advocated of the year in 2017, introduced an action center to the state association, the Property Management Association of Michigan, that helped to get legislation that prohibited the growing of marijuana in apartments over the finish line in the lame-duck session
Ehn continues to bring new ideas and tenacity back to the Association, says its President, Kristen Diamond. When she realized that the association wasn’t doing everything it could to give back to the community, she proposed a charitable arm and spearheaded Grace Outreach of Michigan, an organization that focuses on helping families or veterans get back on their feet to begin the journey of moving forward with their lives.
NAA's Excellence Awards (or Excels), recognizes excellence and leadership in the industry. Excels celebrates communities, industry professionals, and affiliated apartment associations who make unique contributions to the industry. For the winners, receiving an Excels award represents milestones and outstanding achievement.
“We are honored and proud that our local Director, Alice Ehn received this award” noted Kristen Diamond, President of the Washtenaw Area Apartment Association. “There is a great deal of competition forExcels each year and although we know how exceptional Alice Ehn is to our organization, it was thrilling to see that Nationally – they recognize her excellence, as well”.
