LANSING, Mich. — Lansing Community College is proud to announce that 31 students have graduated from the Aviation Maintenance Technology program. These graduates received FAA-mandated training by LCC which allows them to pursue FAA certification as Airframe and Powerplant mechanics. FAA certification is required for individuals to perform maintenance on aircraft, engines and aircraft components.

“These graduates have steadfastly pursued their course of study in spite of significant obstacles related to the coronavirus pandemic,” said program director Mark Bathurst. “Having to transition from in-person training to online training and back to in-person did not deter them from their end goal of certification as FAA Airframe and Powerplant mechanics and employment in the aviation maintenance career field.”

The 31 graduates represent varied backgrounds and experience. FlorIan Lautenshlager gained US citizenship while a student in the program. The five women, 10 students from diverse backgrounds, two current and former military members all helped to enrich the program with the inclusion and diversity that LCC welcomes.

The aviation program offers instruction in a state-of-the-art facility where students receive highly specialized training on the latest aircraft and training devices.

Delta Air Lines selected LCC as one of its partner programs three years ago. The college was chosen as one of 43 Aircraft Maintenance schools to enter into a new partnership established by the airline. Delta Air Lines selected LCC based on over 100 criteria including equipment and facilities, level of hands-on-training, and quality of teaching. This partnership has continued to broaden access for LCC graduates to become the next generation of aviation maintenance technology professionals.
