A teacher at Lansing's Fairview STEM school has been named a Regional Teacher of the Year by Magnet Schools of America (MSA), the national association of theme-based schools.
Richard Gutierrez has been with the Lansing School District for 24 years, and currently teaches second and third grade students.
Three Lansing schools Fairview STEM, Sheridan Road stem, and Everett New Tech High are also begin recognized as Magnet Schools of America 2017 Schools of Distinction.
"The Lansing School District congratulates Mr. Gutierrez on this prestigious award and we celebrate his success and the success of our great Schools of Distinction," said superintendent Yvonne Caamal Canul. "The Lansing School District has many outstanding teachers, and we are proud to have one of the best recognized nationally for his good work, and three schools honored nationally too."
Gutierrez will be presented with his award at the Magnet Schools of America 35th National Conference in Los Angeles. He is eligible for the National Magnet School Teacher of the Year award.
