During the April 17 meeting, the Lansing Community College (LCC) Board of Trustees voted unanimously to extend the term of President Brent Knight’s contract to June 30, 2021.
Knight became the sixth president of LCC on July 1, 2008 and has received five extensions while serving as president. The Board’s vote to extend the contract included several factors, namely Knight’s execution of the strategic plan, integrity-based fiscal stewardship, and campus renovations that will serve the College and community well into the future.
During Monday night’s meeting, Trustee Robert Proctor said:
“The LCC Board is very pleased with President Knight’s accomplishments. I would like to thank him not only for his willingness to continue his leadership role but for bringing extraordinary vision to the College and our community at large.”
The Community for Accredited Online Schools recently released its 2017 list of best online college programs in Michigan, and ranked LCC first among 12 other two-year colleges that made the grade. This is the second No. 1 ranking for LCC in less than six months. The recent accolade from AccreditedSchoolsOnline.org—a leading resource for information on higher education—follows LCC's November 2016 ranking by Schools.com as the top community college among 28 public two-year institutions in Michigan.
“The College is a national leader in several key initiatives,” said Knight. “I appreciate the confidence of the Board to continue to lead these efforts and am inspired by the prospect of doing more.”
In 2015, President Knight was awarded for his visionary leadership with the Lansing "Mayor's Cup for Civic Excellence." Additionally, Knight received the "Exemplary CEO/Board Award" from the American Association of Community Colleges in 2014 and an honorary doctorate degree from Ferris State University in 2012. Dr. Knight has also been recognized by People Magazine, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Tribune, and the American Council on Education as "A national leader in higher education."
