Ingham ISD’s Robert Stephenson Receives Michigan Regional Emmy Awards

LANSING, Mich. — Dr. Robert Stephenson, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Consultant with Ingham Intermediate School District (Ingham ISD) recently received two Michigan Regional Emmy Awards for his work on the show, Curious Crew, produced by WKAR/WKAR.org. Stephenson was awarded Emmy’s as the Host/Moderator of the program and the show won for Best Children’s Youth/Teen Program or Special. WKAR/WKAR.org was also awarded a third Emmy for the show in the graphics arts category.

The awards are sponsored by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Michigan Chapter. This year’s event, which was the 42nd annual, was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was available for viewing on YouTube.

Stephenson serves as the writer and host of WKAR’s award winning children’s science program, Curious Crew, now in its sixth season. He was awarded the 2006 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, the 2009-2010 Michigan Teacher of the Year and was a finalist in 2010 for the National Teacher of the Year. He has served as a STEM Consultant with Ingham ISD since 2014.

“Rob’s commitment to engaging students in investigating the principles of science, technology, engineering and math through the Curious Crew show is extremely worthy of an Emmy award,” notes Jason Mellema, Superintendent at Ingham ISD. “All of us at Ingham ISD applaud the work he does as well as WKAR for valuing the importance of STEM education,” Mellema also noted.
