MASON, Mich. — While Ingham County Animal Shelter would like to have every pet be an indoor pet, that is not always possible. ICACS want to encourage and promote safe pet care in the winter, and is continuing their Dog House Program. Every year ICAC provides free dog houses to low income households with outdoor pets to make sure they have access to shelter during the cold months. These dog houses are donated from the public, or purchased with donated funds. Insulating straw is also provided to keep the animals warm and dry.

ICACs has already provided over 30 dog houses in the last 6 months, leaving few dog houses available going into the coldest months of the year. If you have a dog house you are no longer using and would like to donate it to the shelter for this community program, please contact Kate Turner at 517-676-8318. Dog houses can be brought to the shelter in Mason (600 Buhl St.) or the Outreach Center in Lansing (826 W. Saginaw), or arrangements can be made to have the dog house picked up. If you would like to donate to the shelter to purchase more dog houses, please go to www.icasfund.org to donate online.

All participating households are subject to normal approval procedures and restrictions including an application, interview, and proof of licensing. All houses are available on a first come, first served basis and all pets must be licensed in Ingham County. Dog houses are made available through the generous donations of pet loving citizens of Ingham County.

For more information on discounted adoption fees or other programs at Ingham County Animal Control, contact the shelter at 517-676-8370, visit the ICAC website at www.ac.ingham.org, or visit the shelter at 600 Buhl St. in Mason.
