Holt, Grand Ledge students take on homelessness

With colder weather on the way, a group of students from different Mid-Michigan high schools are trying to help the homeless.

High school students from Holt and Grand Ledge are teaming up to make a difference, and today, they are asking the community to pitch in.

The students will be putting on a supply drive as well as a penny drive that involves a little friendly competition.

Here's how it works: students will be collecting pennies, and the school with the most will be declared the winners. That money goes to help The Homeless Angels, a local charity. You can drop off pennies at the front office at either high school.

Both student groups are looking to collect supplies that the homeless need the most, but that aren't often donated at shelters. Mike Karl with The Homeless Angels says that is everything from socks and feminine hygiene products, to lip balm and hand warmers.
