LANSING, Mich. — Take a step back 1.8 million years and experience the majestic size and scale of animals long extinct in a new traveling exhibit—Ice Age: Frozen Secrets—here in downtown Lansing. The 2,500-square-foot hands-on exhibit opened Saturday, September 7 with over 1,185 mid-Michigan visitors in attendance for its grand opening weekend.

With extinct animal recreations and real fossils up to 500 million years old that you can touch, this immersive exhibit takes you on a journey learning about the environment during the last Ice Age, as well as the lives of creatures like the sabertooth cat, dire wolf, and even early humans. Explore glaciers and their movement while seeing a scaled model of the glacier that covered the state of Michigan during the Ice Age. And spoiler alert, it was over a mile high! Families can team up to put together a huge 3D Mastodon puzzle, dig for fossils, and participate in daily tar pit workshops.

Families can experienceIce Age: Frozen Secrets at Impression 5 Science Center now through January 5, 2020. This exhibit venue is possible thanks to generous local sponsors including Lake Trust Credit Union, the Lansing Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, and Jackson National Life Insurance.

“Our relationship with Impression 5 Science Center has cultivated over the past several years, which has allowed Lake Trust to support creativity, learning, and education within the Greater Lansing community, which has been such a rewarding experience for us” said Tamera Carter, Member Experience Manager for Lake Trust Credit Union.

Impression 5 Science Center is a hands-on space for students and families to play, create, and challenge their understanding of science. Located in downtown Lansing, the Science Center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5:00 p.m. Learn more at impression5.org [impression5.org].
