BISSELL Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters event took place across the state on Saturday, October 14.

They are reporting that a record breaking, 2,142 pets were adopted into their forever homes.
FOX 47 News talked to the Capital Area Humane Society and heard that locally they were able to place 48 animals, that's cats and dogs, into new families.

The free adoption event sponsored by BISSELL Foundation paid for all adoption fees at participating shelters. This was the non-profit’s fourth event in Michigan since the program’s inception.

“It was heartwarming to see so many parents come to the event with their children,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “It’s so important to have the whole family together to select the right pet. Pets went to wonderful homes today!”

The breakdown of adoptions across the state was -
Dogs: 877
Cats/Kittens: 1,244
Other: 21
