LANSING, Mich. — The Hackett Auto Museum has been awarded one of only three electric vehicle-charging stations in Jackson through a new Consumers Energy rebate program.

“We are excited to see the strong response from business owners and community leaders to meet the needs of a new wave of electric vehicles on Michigan’s roads,” said Brian Rich, Consumers Energy’s senior vice president for customer experience.

As part of the PowerMIDrive Rebate Program, the Hackett museum will be awarded a rebate to help cover the purchase and installation costs of the charging station.

The museum has chosen to install the CT4000: Level 2 Public Charging Station. The CT4000 is six feet tall with two eighteen-foot charging cables and is capable of fully charging most electric cars within four hours.

Ted O’Dell, executive director of the museum said, “We are absolutely delighted to partner with Consumers Energy EV program considering some of America’s first electric cars were assembled in this very building from 1911 thru 1915.”

O’Dell also said. “We look forward to hosting and sharing the history of electric cars in the U.S., the CT4000 will help us in our educational programming while discussing the history of the electric car industry” O’Dell said.

The Consumers Energy program highlights three areas, residential, public and fast chargers. The museum is classified as a public place and will receive a rebate up to $5,000.

The Hackett Auto Museum located at 615 Hupp Avenue, served as the assembly plant for the Standard Electric automobile from 1911 thru 1915. During the early twentieth century the building also hosted the Argo car, one of America’s first cars designed to be energy efficient, the Briscoe, Hollier, Hackett, Hupmobile and Earl automobile manufacturers.
