McLaren Greater Lansing nurse Christy Koren was honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the exceptional care nurses provide every day.
Christy was nominated by one of her patient’s in Labor and Delivery. Below is the comment that the patient submitted describing the care that Christy provided.
Nomination of Christy Koren
From the time Christy became my nurse here in labor and delivery, to the time my new little family left, she was nothing but perfect. During my entire labor and procedure, she was amazing and beyond comforting and caring. She was there for every situation making sure myself and son were okay. After my procedure, she continued to be extremely welcoming and helpful. Christy continued her warm and welcoming love in the days after and continued to come and check on me and family even when she wasn’t my nurse. Christy showed phenomenal compassion the entire stay here and made our stay a time we will never forget. We are so thankful and grateful for her. I’m extremely glad my family and I were able to share our experience with her. Thank you again Christy for making the entering of our baby boy so special and perfect.
Christy was recognized by hospital leadership and co-workers and received a certificate commending her for being an "Extraordinary Nurse," as well as a sculpture called "A Healer's Touch," hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
About the DAISY Award
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation based in Glen Ellen, California was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease. The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of patients and their families.
