JACKCSON, Mich. — The Center for Family Health will mark National Health Center week by organizing or participating in several community activities around Jackson County.

National Health Center Week began more than 30 years ago to recognize the accomplishments of organizations such as the Center for Family Health, a federally qualified health center that never turns patients away due to inability to pay. It has also been a way for health centers to showcase their impact, engage elected officials, and encourage community members to learn more about the services offered.

Health centers nationwide serve 28 million patients, a number that continues to grow with the need for affordable primary medical care.

“American health centers have a long record of success in delivering high-quality medical care that is cost-effective and accessible to all,” said Terry Langston, Director of Communications and Advocacy at the Center for Family Health.

“National Health Center Week brings to light the health needs in our communities, and it is an opportunity to highlight how our model of care offers solutions to the nation's health care crisis,” Langston said.

National Health Center week officially lasts from Aug. 4 to Aug. 10, but CFH will mark the occasion with an even longer series of activities intended to engage patients, staff, board members, and the community from Aug. 3-18.

Activities focused on the community are:
• The Southside Summer Festival, noon to 4 pm Aug. 3 at 1107 Adrian Street, Jackson.
• Jackson County Fair, where CFH will have a fair booth, Aug. 4-10 at Keeley Park, 200 W. Ganson Street, Jackson.
• Night of Blessings, 5-7 pm Aug. 8 at 10000 Moscow Road, Horton.
• Sports Physical Clinic for high school students preparing to return to school, 9 am to 6 pm Aug. 10 at the CFH Downtown Facility, 505 N. Jackson Street, Jackson.
• Back to School Blast and Community Resource Fair, 3-6 pm Aug. 16 at CP Federal City Square, 212 W. Michigan Avenue, Jackson.
• School Bash, noon to 6 pm Aug. 18, 1107 Adrian Street, Jackson.

“We are excited about the partnerships created to highlight our work, and to say thank you to patients and community members for entrusting us with their care,” Langston said. “Come out and join us for some of the festivities that will take place.”
