Ban on fireworks still up in the air

Posted

To ban fireworks or not to ban fireworks? That question should be answered later this morning.

Local fire chiefs and fire marshals met Thursday to discuss the issue, but held off on making a decision.

They wanted to wait and see how much rain we got overnight. The chiefs will hold a news conference in Meridian Township at 11:00 a.m. this morning.

They will announce a decision on fireworks shows across Mid-Michigan, as well as personal fireworks.

The possibility of a ban has some fireworks vendors a little bit worried.

"Since we're just really small, the smallest of business people, what it means for us, is we could all be getting other jobs between here and next year, instead of trying to survive on what we can make during the season," Mike Crosby of The Fireworks Tent explained.

If a ban does go into effect, local vendors say they will continue selling fireworks.
