LANSING, Mich. — Career Quest Learning Centers (CQLC) has introduced a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVAC-R) program to its Lansing (3215 S. Pennsylvania Ave.) and Jackson (209 E. Washington Ave., Suite 241) campuses. The program is scheduled to begin in June 2019, with registration open in April.

Ben Howard, operations manager with A-1 Mechanical [a1mechanical.com], says that programs like this are critical to the Lansing and Jackson areas. “Over the past few years, we have had a harder time finding qualified candidates and our growing work demands are often not in line with available employees,” he says, adding that technology is changing, amplifying the challenge of finding qualified employees.

“I see this in the changes to the Energy Code, which drives equipment and building efficiency,” Howard says. “The way we design our systems has also changed over the years. Much of the industry used a ‘rule of thumb’ method and the drive toward efficiency has changed this to a ‘design specific to the application’ method. This provides the customer with a much better HVAC-R system that provides better comfort and more savings.”

The CQLC training program focuses on the installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC-R systems, while preparing students for entry-level employment as HVAC-R technicians. The program, which includes system troubleshooting, maintenance skills and environmental systems, can be completed in under a year.

“The goal of this new leading-edge program is to educate a new generation of HVAC-R technicians, while meeting the increasing demand for qualified professionals,” said CQLC Chief Academic Officer David Heckeler. “We’re very pleased to offer this program because it fills a tremendous need in the community while preparing our graduates for a rewarding, professional career.”

Students interested in the HVAC-R program can contact an admissions representative at 877-481-4930 for more information.
