There won't be a marathon in Lansing next year.

Organizers of the Fifth Third Capital City River Run are discontinuing the marathon portion of the race for 2017.

After completing the third year with the marathon and soliciting feedback from participants, organizers are making a handful of changes to the annual race.

In addition to discontinuing the marathon and marathon relay, other changes include alternating the half marathon route each year between MSU and Hawk Island, adding a three-person relay to the half marathon route and starting the 5K at the same time as the other events.

Funds raised from the race will continue to go toward supporting education in Lansing and the surrounding areas. Proceeds from the event go to Impression 5 Science Center, The Lansing Promise, Friends of the Lansing River Trail and Team Lansing Foundation.

Registration is now open for 2017, which is set for September 16 & 17. To sign up, click here.
