Roughly 42 percent of active duty military children are 5 years old or younger. Operation Homefront, MLT Transport, and Willow Tree Family Center are helping a portion of that percent on their journey to motherhood.
25 pre-registered new and expecting military moms are being celebrated with a baby shower.
"It helps them have a chance to prepare for the new baby. We give them information of what to expect if they're new parents with breastfeeding and car-seat safety...anything a parent would need to know," Sherri Beck with Operation Homefront said.
Moms walked away with many things including baby wraps, and toiletries. Beside material items, the Star Bangled Babies program provide parents with early childhood education tips, and a support system while loved ones are away.
"It's just really amazing because this is unheard of. All of this stuff is not cheap, and just a little bit of help- helps. I'm just amazed by everything," LaRae Thomas said. Thomas found out she was pregnant in January.
Organizers said this was their way of letting moms know they are not alone.
