In commemoration of the 2018 Leonard Bernstein centennial, acclaimed conductor of the Louisville Orchestra, Teddy Abrams, and Broadway singer and recording artist, Morgan James, have joined forces to create a breathtaking production celebrating the best of Bernstein’s works with full orchestra. According to Hype magazine, Abrams’ orchestral gravitas, combined with James’ as a vocal powerhouse, will “...transport us to a different time and place.” The set list for the evening will include many of Bernstein’s classical Broadway works, including hit numbers like “Tonight” from West Side Story.

Teddy Abrams is the youngest music director ever of a major American orchestra. An established conductor, clarinetist, and pianist, he has spent his career advocating for the power of interdisciplinary music and collaboration. His orchestras have completed works with other renowned organizations such as the Louisville Ballet, the Center for Interfaith Religions and the Folgers Shakespeare Library. Abrams’ career has even brought him to Michigan, as he served as the assistant conductor of the Detroit Symphony from 2012-2014.

Broadway chanteuse Morgan James has taken on the title of “beltress” in the music world, and she more than lives up to this title. A Juilliard-trained vocalist, James has honed her craft into a career, appearing in several Broadway musicals, including Motown: The Musical, Godspell, and The Addams Family. She has also written her own work and has several original albums, including her most recent, a reimagining of The Beatles‘ The White Album.

Audience members can expect to hear selections from some of Bernstein’s fan-favorite shows, such as West Side Story, Candide and On The Town. THE BEST OF BERNSTEIN’S BROADWAY is sure to be a spellbinding performance.
