MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Harris Nature Center, 3998 Van Atta Road, in Meridian Township has Halloween Adventures for the whole family on Saturday, October 19th from 10 am – 5 pm.

“Halloween is the perfect time for families to be outside, experiencing nature, while enjoying this whimsical holiday,” said Nature Center Coordinator Kati Adams. “At this event, we try to teach a little about animals and nature through the theme of Halloween.”

Most children like to begin their adventure at the Halloween Fun House, a Halloween thrill without blood or gore. Children accompanied by an adult can follow a trail for a short walk through the “Friendly Forest” participating in activities and meeting a “spider” and an “opossum” along the way to the pumpkin patch where they will be allowed to choose a pumpkin and take it back to the building to decorate. They continue their adventure with pumpkin decorating and crafts inside the building and games outside. Again this year, they can take a swing at a real pumpkin piñata and collect candy when it finally breaks. Children can also take a hayride with a naturalist through the woods and then enjoy roasting marshmallows around the campfire. Throughout the park families will find Halloween Photo Booths decorated in different themes for posing in the perfect picture.

In the main display area of the nature building visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments and to learn about the animals on display there. Children can participate in all of these activities for just $8. No registration is necessary for this event and it will continue regardless of the weather.
