MASON, Mich. — With the Christmas and New Year’s holidays fast approaching, Ingham County Animal Control is making some special arrangements for the adoptable pets in their care. Each year from the week before Christmas to the week after New Year’s, they send their adoptable pets into foster homes. Since the shelter is closed four additional days due to the Holidays, opportunities are limited for these pets to find their forever home while staying at the shelter. The pets that are sent to temporary foster homes get to meet not only their host family, but the foster family’s friends, extended families, even coworkers and neighbors who may fall in love with them and hope to adopt. Animals will leave for their foster homes December 19th-21st. The return dates are scheduled on January 3rd and 4th.

“Foster parenting is a very rewarding experience” says manager Kate Turner. “Being able to open your home to a pet in need and really see them come out of their shell is fantastic. And, once you get to know them, you can help find the best home for that dog or cat that matches their personality.”

If you think you and your family are able to host a foster pet over the holiday season, contact foster coordinator Lauren Yunker at 517-676-8311, or email at loxendale-yunker@ingham.org. Spending the holidays in a real home can make a lifetime of difference to an adoptable pet in need. Supplies are available on an as-needed basis, and all pets are up to date on medical care.

All foster homes are subject to normal approval procedures and restrictions including an application, interview, and proof of landlord permission for renters. All pets are available on a first come, first served basis and all pets adopted from the Ingham County Animal Shelter are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

For more information on pet adoptions or other programs at Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter, contact the shelter at 517-676-8370, visit the ICACS website at www.ac.ingham.org, or visit the shelter at 600 Buhl St. in Mason. Ingham County Animal Control is open M,T,Th,F,Sa 10:30-5pm and W 10:30-6pm. The shelter is closed on county observed holidays.
