BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Former Detroit Tigers All-Star Brandon Inge and his wife, Shani, announce a day of baseball and family fun with a new event, Dingers For DIPG, on Saturday August 17, 2019 at C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek.
Proceeds from Dingers For DIPG benefit the ChadTough Foundation, which inspires and funds game-changing research to discover effective treatments for pediatric brain cancer, with an emphasis on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). The Foundation was created in memory of 5 year-old Chad Carr, the godson of Shani Inge and grandson of former University of Michigan Head Football Coach Lloyd Carr.
Dingers For DIPG will include a morning youth baseball skills camp for kids ages 8-14, an afternoon home run derby qualifier, an evening home run derby and nighttime concert and fireworks show. Activities will take place the Stadium thanks to the support of the Battle Creek Bombers.
The home run derby will include participation by former Major League Baseball players including American League Champion Craig Monroe and special appearance by Hall of Famer Alan Trammell.
The Inges created this event to further the mission of The ChadTough Foundation, while continuing little Chad Carr’s legacy. “As good friends of Jason and Tammi Carr, my wife, Shani, and I knew Chad from the time he was born,” said Brandon Inge. “We have watched Jason and Tammi take a tragedy and turn it into a movement. We see this as an opportunity to go after one of the deadliest forms of cancer to not only make progress with DIPG, but as a trickle-down for all other cancers.”
“Around this time every year, as Chad’s angel-versary approaches, we are reminded of having to say goodbye to that amazing child that brought so much laughter and happiness to our lives,” said Shani Inge. “Chad’s passing has left us with such a sense of loss and an incredible pit in our stomachs. However, we are in awe of the difference that beautiful boy continues to make every single day (via The ChadTough Foundation).”
