LANSING, Mich. — On Saturday, December 14th, Ingham County Animal Shelter is hosting three holiday events for triple the holiday fun. To start the day, the shelter will be holding its 4th and 5th session of S.P.A.C.E. (Shelter Pets Assisting Children’s Education) Tails program. This program focuses on having students aged 6-16 come to the shelter and read to shelter pets. This interaction brings the same love and attention to a shelter pet as a play time, while also helping student be excited about literacy. The two reading sessions will start at 11am and at 3pm. Participants must register in advance, as space is limited. Registration can be done online at https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/3074390/false#/invitation. Readers are encouraged to come in their favorite holiday pajamas, making it a fun way to bring some holiday joy to their reading adventure. Missed a chance to register? Don’t worry, more S.P.A.C.E. Tails reading programs will be coming up over the holiday break!

All day the adoption fees are reduced to a “Pick your Price” adoption fee. You pick your pet, you pick the adoption fee. Regular adoption requirements will still apply, and families should remember that adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment. At 5pm when regular shelter activities close, our annual Holiday All Nighter Adoption Event will kick off continuing adoptions into the evening Adoptions will go all night until 1am with the help of shelter volunteers and staff.

Finally, back for a spectacular return, the second annual “InPound” fundraising event will be going on at the same time as the holiday adoptions. Local celebrity personalities are being InPounded to the shelter and locked up by animal control officers with an adoptable pet at 6pm. To be released, they have to call in favors and get your support to raise the $500 redemption fee so they can make it Home for the Holidays like the pets they are locked up with. Participants include Ingham County K9 Unit Sargent Andrew Daenzer, Kirbay Preuss from Preuss Pets, Artimis from i92.9FM, and many more. These shelter supporters will be walked to their kennels and will stay at the shelter until they can raise their donation redemption fee. Donations can be brought to the shelter, made over the phone, or submitted online in advance to help your favorite citizens. Donations collected will support the Ingham County Animal Shelter Fund, and can be made online at www.icasfund.org/donate.

In 2018 there were over 25 adoptions at this adoption event, and $9,000 raised by the InPound Fundraiser. This year the shelter has a goal of both increasing adoptions, but also raising funds and awareness for shelter programs.
