Alzheimer's Association Walk To End Alzheimer's in Lansing

Posted

The Alzheimer’s Association® is inviting Lansing residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Walk will take place on September 24 at the State Capitol in Lansing.

Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's participants will complete a two mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

“The Lansing Walk is our chapter’s biggest Walk, and is expected to draw more than 1,300 people and raise nearly a quarter of a million dollars for Alzheimer’s care, support and research,” says Nicole Bebee, Walk Manager for the Alzheimer’s Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter. “This family-friendly event is really a celebration of life, and of the progress that we’re making toward finding a cure – progress that wouldn’t be possible without the help of each and every person that participates in the Walk.”

This year’s Walk is sponsored by Jackson National Life Insurance, Fox 47 and HOMTV. Check-in and registration start at 11:30am and the opening ceremony begins at 12:45pm.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 15 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Michigan alone, there are more than 180,000 people living with the disease and over half a million caregivers.
