A Lansing cemetery got some upgrades thanks to a 5K run last fall.

The Race to Restore generated enough money to fix eight downed monuments at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Crews reassembled and stabilized the largest one on Tuesday.

Volunteers tells us they organized it because the city does not have money in the budget to restore monuments.

"It's a matter of honoring and respecting the dead," said Loretta Stanaway, Friends of Lansing Historic Cemeteries. "They're not here, they don't have a voice. In many of these cases the families are long gone as well and there's no one to speak up for and take care of these. So that's why we step in and do it."

This year's Race to Restore will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 22.
