ePIFanyNow™ organizers are holding the annual pass-it-forward party on Sunday, May 7, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Michigan State University Federal Credit Union headquarters in East Lansing. (3777 West Road) This free event is open to the public and encourages participants to arrive having completed an act of kindness.
Since 2009, ePIFanyNow™ has gathered thousands of people together and asked them to share their pass-it-forward stories. In 2015 the Y-PIF Award (Youth Passing It Forward) was created to honor youth in two categories — grades 5-8 and 9-12, who are making a positive contribution to their community. At this year’s Pass-It-Forward Party, ePIFanyNow™ will award the grand prize winner in each Y-PIF category $500 to go to their project, and another $500 to their school. This year Exploring Potentials, a training development company in East Lansing, is also donating $500 to the Y-PIF winner in each category.
The 2017 Y-PIF finalists are:
· OPERATION 1000 DAYS
5TH graders from Bath Elementary School are raising money to purchase non-perishable snacks and books for the students’ of Neithercut Elementary School in Flint, Michigan, who have been affected by the city’s tainted water supply.
· PROJECT PINWHEEL
Mason Middle School’s Leo Club members are raising awareness of child abuse by creating a pinwheel garden, among other things.
· KANIN THELEN SINGS TO END CANCER
Dewitt Elementary student Kanin Thelen is a dedicated pre-teen vocalist who is singing to not only raise the spirit of others, but to raise funds for a friend and teacher with cancer.
· GREAT GIRLS OF 4 and 5
5th graders from St. Peter Lutheran School in St. Johns are helping Lansing’s Ronald McDonald House create a public service announcement and raising funds for the families staying at the house.
· NORTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL SPREADING KINDNESS IN LARGE AND MEANINGFUL WAYS
The Be More Kind Club at Jackson’s Northwest High School is helping spread good news by encouraging students to write more than 2,000 cards of gratitude, among other positive contributions.
The public can vote for their favorite Y-PIF nominee by visiting www.epifanynow.org or at the ePIFanyNow party on Sunday, May 7. Each vote is $1.00, and every dollar raised goes back to the Y-PIF project that received the vote. Voting will end at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, and the 2017 Y-PIF winners will be announced.
