Staying Cloudy and Cool but Warming up by the Middle of the Workweek

LANSING, Mich. — Good Sunday evening!

Well that was unfortunate... The Great Lakes crushed my hopes and dreams of seeing the sunshine today and we had a stubborn low cloud deck firmly in place, which also kept our temps on the cool side in the 20s. These low clouds were driven primarily by instability that was generated as cool air traversed the Lakes moving north to south, stretching all the way across the state. An upper level trough of low pressure is the culprit for the cooler air and that sticks with us through Tuesday before the pattern begins to shift.

With that, Monday and Tuesday will both feature a mix of sun and clouds, but more in the way of cloudiness and that will keep our temps seasonably cool in the 30s.

On Wednesday, a ridge builds in at the upper levels and that draws warmer air into the region which will help to bring an end to the stout cloud cover and our temps will climb through the 40s under ample sunshine.

To wrap up the workweek, the weather becomes active and we see rain Friday night/Saturday then snow for Sunday.
