WSYM — Snow is expected to arrive tonight and last through the day Saturday. A Winter Weather Advisory (purple) has been issued for Ionia, Clinton, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Calhoun, and Jackson counties from 7 PM tonight to 4 PM Saturday. Locations under the advisory can expect 1-3" of snow along I-96, and 3-5" along I-94. Snow will begin tonight around 10 PM and slowly overspread the region Saturday morning. Snow tapers off for most locations around 3 PM Saturday afternoon, and from there Lansing and Jackson should be done seeing the snow. A second surge of snow will pass through the southeast corner of the state Saturday evening affecting areas like Ann Arbor and Detroit. Snow to the southeast will end around 8 PM Saturday night.
Farther to the south those along the state line will see more snow. Branch and Hillsdale counties are under a Winter Storm Watch (Blue) from 10 PM tonight to 10 PM Saturday. Nearly 4-6" of snow is expected with locally higher amounts possible. It will also be windy to the south with gusts near 35 MPH. That may cause blowing snow.
Use caution on the roads tomorrow as they will be snow covered and slick. On top of the snow it will also be cold! Highs on Saturday reach the low 20s, factor in a breeze and wind chills will fall into the single digits. Lows Saturday night into Sunday fall into the single digits and wind chills fall below zero. We recover with mostly sunny skies on Sunday, but the arctic air remains with highs only reach the teens and wind chills below zero all day.
