LANSING, Mich. — Today is September 1st and as we start the new month you’ll want to have the umbrella on stand by. Mostly cloudy today with a few spotty showers possible this morning and early afternoon. Rain early on will be isolated and light. The better chance for more widespread rain comes late this afternoon into this evening with thunderstorms developing. Some storms may contain gusty winds and heavy rain as they move east through the state. Thunderstorm activity should fizzles out overnight, but a few rain showers will linger through the morning hours Wednesday before we dry out completely Wednesday afternoon.
High temperatures reach the upper 70s to near 80 degrees today and will once again reach to around 80 degrees Wednesday afternoon. Low temperatures tonight drop into the mid 60s.
Thursday will remain dry with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s. Friday the sunshine sticks around and it will be cooler with temperatures only reaching the low 70s.
Expect more sunshine for the start of the holiday weekend Saturday with highs in the mid 70s. Dry through the day Sunday with highs in the mid 70s. A chance for thunderstorms Sunday night but it looks like a fast moving system and we should be dry by sun rise Monday. Labor day Monday looks nice, if not a bit chilly. Highs only reach the upper 60s to low 70s Monday afternoon under partly cloudy skies, but it looks to stay dry through the day if you have plans to be outdoors.
